School Official suspended for requiring students to buy and sell worksheets for Catch-up Friday

School official suspended catch-up friday

MANILA— On Tuesday, a “high ranking official” of a public school in Caloocan City was placed under a 90-day preventative suspension by the Department of Education (DepEd) for allegedly charging students P60 for work sheets and booklets that they needed for their learning recovery classes in Catch-up Friday.

Undersecretary Michael Poa, a spokesman for the administration of Education and Training, stated that this came about as a result of the administration receiving numerous complaints from parents regarding the costs associated with the “Catch-up Fridays”.

Since the administrative process is still in progress, Poa declined to identify the specific school and the person who was the subject of the preventive suspension. According to Atty. Michael Poa, the spokeperson of the department of education he called the attention of the regional director regaridng this issue to conduct thorough investigation.

In the reports he received, and based from the premilinary investigation according to Atty. Poa there is a need to file file a formal charge to the concerned deped official regarding the selling of the booklets, and the formal charge was issued already.

According to Atty. While the said official already admitted to violating the “no collection policy”, the person will still be given three days to formally answer the charges.

Concurrently, the TDC has requested that the DepEd investigate the internet sale of instructional resources, primarily lesson plans or “Catch-up Fridays” guidelines. At P199 is the maximum price for packaged products, according to certain documents that TDC provided to ABS-CBN News. Basas thinks that this might be the work of some DepEd employees.

Poa mentioned he hasn’t seen these pages yet. “We will examine all of these matters and see if they match up with our investigation if that’s the case,” he continued.
