Grade 2 First Periodical Test

In Grade 2, students are expected to build on the foundational skills they acquired in the earlier years of schooling. The Department of Education’s K to 12 curriculum emphasizes the development of the following competencies:

1. Reading and Writing: At this stage, children are taught to read fluently with comprehension and accuracy. They are encouraged to expand their vocabulary, recognize sight words, and understand basic grammar rules. Writing tasks include composing simple sentences, short paragraphs, and expressing thoughts clearly.

2. Mathematics: The Grade 2 Math curriculum focuses on basic arithmetic, including addition and subtraction of two- and three-digit numbers, understanding place value, and solving simple word problems. Other key areas include basic geometry (identifying shapes and patterns) and measurements (length, weight, and capacity).

3. Science: Grade 2 Science introduces basic concepts about living and non-living things, parts of plants and animals, and simple weather patterns. Students learn to observe, ask questions, and perform simple experiments to understand the world around them.

4. Mother Tongue-Based Multilingual Education (MTB-MLE): This subject enhances literacy skills using the student’s mother tongue, which serves as the language of instruction. It aims to develop reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills in the native language.

5. Araling Panlipunan (Social Studies): The curriculum covers basic lessons about the community, family roles, and responsibilities, and introduces simple concepts of history, geography, and culture.

6. Music, Arts, Physical Education, and Health (MAPEH): This integrated subject aims to promote holistic development through creative expression in music and arts, physical fitness activities, and basic health education.

7. Edukasyon sa Pagpapakatao (ESP): ESP or Values Education focuses on character building, moral development, and understanding Filipino values. It encourages respect, empathy, and social responsibility among Grade 2 students.
